Nursing Units

Aufranc Unit/Jenks 5 East

The Aufranc Unit is a 29-bed inpatient adult orthopedic unit whose primary patient population includes those that have undergone total joint replacement, specifically hip and knee arthroplasty. Focused post-operative care includes: pain management, rehabilitation, medication teaching, wound care, and discharge planning with family involvement and utilization of resources in the community. An interdisciplinary approach is utilized in meeting the assessed needs and identified priorities for this patient population through clinical pathways, patient rounds and patient-centered conferences.

Baxter-Poppen Unit /Jenks 5 West

The Baxter-Poppen Unit is a 29-bed inpatient adult Medical-Surgical/Orthopedic Unit whose primary patient population includes those who have undergone complex spine surgeries. Other types of patients that may be admitted to this floor include general orthopedic procedures, as well as general medical/surgical patients. An interdisciplinary approach is utilized in meeting the assessed needs and identified priorities for this patient population through clinical pathways, patient rounds and patient-centered conferences.


Jenks 4 East

Jenks 4 East is a 30-bed unit with 24 telemetry-monitored beds that provide continuous cardiac monitoring and close observation for patients with a range of cardiac disturbances. Patients on this unit may have a wide array of medical/surgical illnesses. Areas of focus include cardiology, oncology, hematology, nephrology and gerontology.
An interdisciplinary approach is utilized in meeting the assessed needs and identified priorities for this patient population through clinical pathways, patient rounds and patient-centered conferences.

Warren Unit/Jenks 4 West

The Warren Unit is a 27-bed inpatient adult Medical/Surgical/Orthopedic Unit whose primary patient population is medical observation and surgical orthopedic patients. Nursing care is outcome-focused and includes: pain management, prevention of post-surgical complications, medication teaching and discharge planning. Discharge teaching is patient centered and can include family and significant others. An interdisciplinary approach is utilized in meeting the assessed needs of the patient and prioritizing care to achieve successful outcomes through the utilization of accepted standards of care. 


Lahey 5

Lahey 5 is a 19 bed inpatient adult Medical/Surgical/Orthopedic Unit whose primary focus is general orthopedics and medical/surgical. Nursing care is outcome-focused and includes: pain management, prevention of post-surgical complications, medication teaching and discharge planning. Discharge teaching is patient centered and can include family and significant others.

An interdisciplinary team approach is utilized in meeting the assessed needs of the patient and prioritizing care to achieve successful outcomes through the utilization of accepted standards of care, clinical pathways, and patient care rounds.

Intensive Care Unit

The Intensive Care Unit (ICU) is a ten-bed unit that provides both intensive monitoring and treatment. ICU patients have existing or potentially life threatening health problems. The staff follows a holistic approach in caring for intensive care patients and families with the objective of restoring the patient to optimum health. Interdisciplinary collaboration for patient care is achieved through clinical pathways, patient rounds and conferences.

Ambulatory Care Unit

The Ambulatory Care is a unique, outpatient unit used primarily by NEBH physicians to evaluate and treat adolescents (approximately ages 15 to 18), along with adult and geriatric patients. The unit provides comprehensive care with an interdisciplinary approach for patients presenting with urgent-emergent problems in medicine, surgery, orthopedic, and occupational medicine.

Employee Health Department

The Employee Health Department is a resource for employees with occupational health issues. It also provides health promotion activities that encourage employee participation in healthy and safe behaviors.

The department offers employees a wide range of services, including:
• Pre-placement health screening
• Infectious disease screening and immunizations
• Health surveillance
• Health promotion and wellness programs
• Assessing and maintaining a safe work environment
• Management of occupational injuries, illnesses and exposures

Pre-Admission Screening Unit

The Pre-Admission Screening Unit evaluates and screens patients prior to surgery. This process ensures that all of the necessary patient information is gathered for the health care team. Pre-screening is also an important measure in determining that a patient is in optimal physical condition for their procedure.

The basic pre-admission screening process includes:
• A history and physical
• Nursing assessment
• Anesthesia evaluation
• Diagnostic testing
Depending on a patient's age and other findings during the physical examination, the patient may need an EKG, X-rays, and other consultations. Because the screening process is individualized for each patient, the length of time a patient is in this unit will vary.


Preoperative Services Department

New England Baptist Hospital Perioperative Service Department on the main campus consists of 13 operating suites, the Bond Center, Post Anesthesia Care Unit, Endoscopy Unit, and Central Sterile Processing Department, as well as New England Baptist Surgicare at Brookline Place.

Perioperative Services strives to provide the most advanced methods of health care and technology combined with compassionate, highly skilled and well trained nurses and health care workers.

Our Surgical Department provides a comprehensive array of services that are focused on our patients and meeting our community's health care needs.
